Mr. Curfew Sr.

Yes, the first week of my last year as an undergraduate student just passed by, barely leaving me room to catch my breath. So I ended up having flu over the weekend (from a serious cough last Thurs up til now – well, this morning), making me miss several appointments with the Council, SIDHI, Ecosoc, CAP and Peers. Yes, I’m that busy.

On a positive note, I managed to be productive this past weekend by reading the chapters on the Ricardian model of trade (comparative advantage being the central idea of Ricardo’s theory), finishing SIDHI’s poster for this week’s Org Fair (faSEbook apps) and watching the pilot ep of Glee online. ‘The only life worth living is one you’re passionate about.’ Wee, I’m so looking forward to this series.

Of an Underdog Win and Love for School

I’m on Team Allen. You might call me a person with bad taste, but I rooted for Danny Gokey in the recently-concluded season of American Idol (I haven’t tuned in that much to Season 8 compared to last season, though). I guess I really like singers with husky voices. Haha. But after his departure from the singing tilt, I became a Kris Allen convert (A Danny-Kris finale would really have been nicer. :| ). He is quite a talented musician. So I was pleased with the results last Wednesday, and immediately Google-d his new single – and LOVED it.

Kris deserves the win as much as Adam deserves the offers to be the lead singer in a couple of popular rock bands. Cut the guy some slack, I’m pretty sure he’s going to go a long way, unlike *coughTaylorcough*, because he appears to have a genuine appeal to the audience, and he has lots of room to hone his musical abilities.

School’s not in session yet – but for me, it is. So I don’t have thesis class this semester, but from the looks of my workload for the next three weeks, it would feel like I am already doing my thesis.

My Pseudo-Econ 199 class homework.

This Took Weeks in the Making. (PART 1)

If you ask someone like me with over a hundred photo albums in his hard drive, it was particularly difficult to finish this photo meme. Haha.

Nakakalungkot na nakakatawa yung feeling habang ginagawa ‘to. I dunno why.

Credits to the people who took some of the photos I used. You know who you are. Haha! Thanks! =)

*Part 2 (#s 14-35) coming soon. Nakaka-frustrate lang talaga maghanap ng pinaka-tugmang photo sa mga items. Haha!

WARNING: Heavy picspam ahead.

Back From Nirvana.

Who am I kidding. I haven’t even reached Plurk Nirvana, let alone update this blog of mine for months. Haha. My life has been one crazy ride since I last wrote anything here (I’ve cleaned up my old stuff, a new lease on my blogging life. Whatever, Jau. Haha). And though I’m itching to play story-teller, I think it’s best not to dwell too much on things that have transpired. Emooo.

Around two more weeks before I hit the registration lines for the second-to-the-last time. Yes, it means I’m already a college senior. :( But since I’ll be doing my thesis come second semester (with Raffy), I decided to go all-out on everything this incoming semester. (Entry 1)

Find out what I’ll be busy with in the near future

The Week in Perspective

Monday

I found my way to the urban jungle of Manila by myself. Yahoo! Chalked up another 2.5 hours of service, so that’s a grand total of 6 hours. Haha. Since the kids were downstairs at a Christmas party by God-knows-who, me and my groupmates had time to cook one up for the ward next week. Unfortunately, the residents at the pediatric ward were thinking of the same thing. My group mates talked to the supervisor if we could tie-up with them. Full systems go. I love my group mates, but I still don’t know why they haven’t replaced me as their point person.

After lunch at Wendy’s (with Lia, Carlo G. and Cathy), we went to Econ for the Monday CDC. Boy, subtraction was hard to teach, with the borrowing and the 6-digit numbers.

Prod work for the Econ Rep after. Since Pierre had to leave early (Happy 3rd Monthsary to you and Ella!), I took charge. Still, there’s the element of fun. Aimee and Race thought of putting a forged note from Pierre on one of the panel boards for the other volcorps, instructing them to paste additional borders for the primers. Hahaha.

Tuesday to Friday

Saturday High.

I went extra early to school today for the campaign prodwork for the Econ Rep before the 1st Saturday CDC. And as I expected, no one from the Volcorps was there yet, save for Reuel. Haha. So I and my co-apps (Cid and Reuel and Sushi) went to help Roda get the chairs from the Econ Library for the program. (Even made a mistake in a sent SMS. It’s supposed to be Econ Lib, not the Main Lib. :| )

On with the CDC Proper

Lisez.

Dialogue un

Sir Env Sci 1: So I’ve lowered the passing rate to 50% for those who are arts and social science majors. The passing rate is still 55% for the nerds.

Dialogue deux

Ma’am 106: So this is our last meeting for this year, merry Christmas to you guys!

Us: Yey!!!

Dialogue trois

Sir 151: Do you know why children in public schools have low test scores? Because they fall asleep in class and cannot follow their lessons. Why do they fall asleep? Because they are malnourished.

Sushi: Jau, malnourished ka ba?

Tambay for about 6 hours earlier, which involved:

Staring into blank space or watching people playing Tekken. My mind was not properly functioning during that time so I wasn’t able to finish the thick 151 readings. Good thing there was no quiz.

Playing pusoy dos. Yes, I’m on a roll. Wahaha.

Playing I wanna be a tutubi…Fun! Sweating hands, not fun though.

Joyride-slash-errand running. Tagged along with Jes, Sushi and Roda to the Coop to buy juice drinks for tomorrow’s CDC, which is sponsored by Liaison. Naki-free ride sa cooler ng Finance. Ang kulit ko lang sa ice. Haha.

Special Events + Mem Comm’s UBE. 3-1? 2! Woohoo! Haha.

Brief shutter-ing after UBE. With Triszh’s bubbles all over the place. Haha.

So there. Need to catch some shut-eye. Tomorrow’s going to be another long day. Haha.

App Story.

I’ve chalked up around 11.4 hours of tambay already. There were so many people to ‘formally’ meet. (Because I already knew most of them but most of them are clueless as to who I was. Haha!) Good thing most of them left me to my own devices. I could be shy too, you know. You wouldn’t believe me anyway. Haha!

Yesterday, I attended my first EcoSoc genmeet. Riot would be an understatement. There was a sea of pink and purple in SE 127. Haha! And I just found out during that time that Dom was also a co-app. I thought he was already a member. (Len thought that I was a member. Sana. Haha!)

Earlier, I finally won in pusoy dos, thanks to coaching from Sushi and Cole. (Let’s rewind. Ogie: Ano po ulit name niyo Kuya? Ako: Jau. Ogie: Ayun! Basta naalala ko, ikaw yung magaling mag-pusoy! Go figure. Haha!) Eventually, I played against them (plus JM aka Julio), and it didn’t turn out that badly – a second-to-the-last finish. Haha!

Soon enough, I found myself outside the tambayan once more (the place gets full quicker than I expected) with my co-apps (Issay, Marian, Race, Lia, Cheenie, Reuel) for more bonding. It feels awkward and fun at the same time to be their kuya. Weird, I know. They remind me of myself when I first applied for an organization plus the feeling I got when I shifted to the Economics program.

Got home late…again. (For the record, it was just past 6 and I was really in Econ and not in a mall with orgmates or whatever. It s*c*s to be 19 and still under the parents’ watchful eyes.) Slept for a bit before typing this, and now I’m going to force myself to read Hillman for 151. Who knows, maybe Sir will give that ‘surprise’ short quiz tomorrow. Argh.

(A very happy birthday to my co-app Nads! =))

Of Vampires and Races.

(Let’s just pretend that I didn’t abandon this blog to save me the trouble of re-introducing this site. Haha!)

Yep, I’ve joined the Twilight bandwagon. Or so I thought.

Anyways, our block outing to Eastwood – which took a month in the making – pushed through last Saturday. It’s my second time in that money-drainer of a place and I might not drop by for a visit any time soon. Haha!

In my opinion, the movie was good – despite the excessive close-ups (bad angles, I tell you) and the bland acting of the leads, the likeable sound track, some funny moments (courtesy of Charlie and the Cullens) and minimal expectations more than made up for the otherwise lousy direction of the novel’s big-screen adaptation.

After the movie, the whole afternoon was devoted to the ubiquitous videoke room at the arcade. God forbid anyone but my blockmates to see me singing my ego away. Hahaha.

K6 is love. I’m still a journalist after all. Nyak. Haha.

**

Today’s a holiday, but I spent it at school. Minus the school work, of course.

For the first time in my three attempts at membership, I attended the Ecosoc’s applicant’s orientation and mini-team building seminar. (AppsOr and TBS)

1.) Enjoyed the commpres (committee presentations). Had a hard time choosing between Memcom-Echoes and Seccom-Sports. Haha.

2.) Had lunch with the members at KFC – albeit isolating ourselves from the execomm and mems’ table. (It really feels awkward to be talking to my batch mates at that moment. Di ko rin alam. Haha!)

3.) I feel so young when I’m around my freshmen co-applicants. ;)

4.) Even if the TBS was confined to our side of the academic oval, it was exhausting and fun. Save for the powdery taste of the flour. Haha! Orange team for the win! (Btw, I held my teammate’s hand for more support, nothing else. Haha!)

There’s definitely no turning back for this applicant.

Before I end this patchwork post, here’s a plug for all my schoolmates. :P

171-ing.

Before logging in: Started reading almost an entire semester’s worth of readings for an essay exam on Thursday after checking the data set for inconsistencies for a problem set due Friday. (still not sure though whether what I did was the proper way to address missing values, though I’m pretty sure there is no multicollinearity).

Before logging in: Decided to not push through with it. It’s what’s best for all of us. I’m not being ethically subjective here, it’s a realist statement – some things are beyond anyone’s reasoning, including mine.

After logging in: Finish with 2 more chapters of metaethics before retiring for the night.

After logging in: Might also break down. No surprises there.
